ABOUT AMBU
AMBU, located in Hawaii, USA, is a design studio of distinctive, handcrafted products full of energy and personality.
​No two items are exactly alike; each item is individually designed, then crafted using specialized leatherworking hand tools. Several steps (design, cutting, tooling, dyeing, assembly,hardware installation,sewing,edge finishing, sealing) are involved in moving a product from concept to completion; the process can take many hours over several days to accommodate each stage of production.
We use veg tan leather as the material of choice for most of our bags, cases and cuffs. Suede, latigo and chrome tan leather are also used for some products. Our leather is primarily derived from cow hides, product descriptions indicate when hides from other animals are used. Bracelets are made of high-end European braided leather and Portugese cork.Dyes, paints, glues and finishes used in our designs are water-based products.

ABOUT the designer
​
The designs and crafting are the handiwork of Ambu Ramamurthy, a self-taught leathercrafter whose main goal is to enjoy the creative process! AMBU designs are inspired by cross-cultural, international art and talent, appealing to a wide variety of tastes.
Ambu had an early introduction to crafting, as a toddler tagging along with her mom to craft classes and 'assisting' with mom's various craft endeavors. Ambu's own crafting adventures started in her early teens with sewing, which she continues to enjoy; she also makes jewelry, organic skin products and dabbles in photography.
